What does it mean to “wake up white” in 21st century America?
During January and February, our Wednesday Togethers programming series will focus on issues of race, racial reconciliation, and what these conversations mean in our contemporary world. The conversation will use the Debby Irving book, Waking Up White: and Finding Myself in the Story of Race, as a launching pad for fierce and deep conversations with community leaders and advocates for racial equality in Jackson and beyond.
The book may be ordered through Lemuria locally and is available on Amazon.
The tentative schedule is:
January 9: The PC(USA) and Race — led by Rev. Rob Lowry
January 16: Book Discussion 1 — led by Rev. Rob Lowry
January 23: Guest Speaker Kenneth Townsend, Millsaps College
January 30: Book Discussion 2 — led by Rev. Rob Lowry
February 6: Guest Speaker TBD
February 13: Final Book Discussion
