Parish Associate The Reverend Rims Barber

Rims came to Mississippi for Freedom Summer in 1964. That summer has become more than 50 years of advocacy and witness for equality and justice.  Rims received his BA degree from Coe College in 1958 and his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1962. He worked for the Delta Ministry (1965 to 1977) and for the Children's Defense Fund (1977 to 1989), and he currently works with community groups to enable the voices of the poor and oppressed to be heard through the Mississippi Human Services Agenda. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Tougaloo College in 1993. Rims is a constant presence during the Mississippi Legislature’s sessions as he advocates for the poor, oppressed, and marginalized in our communities. 

Rims served the Presbyterian Church USA as Moderator for Alexander Memorial Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko (1990–2012) and as a member of the National Hunger Council (1991–1995) and the Mary Holmes College Board of Trustees (1986–2003). He has served Fondren Presbyterian Church as Parish Associate since 1999.

Rims and his wife Judy live in Belhaven and have been married 41 years.  They have four children and four grandchildren.

Interim Director of Spiritual Engagement Ann Phelps

A graduate of Hastings College (NE) and Yale Divinity School, Ann brings experience in both parish ministry and campus ministry.  Ann will take over primary responsibility for the 5:45 service, assist in planning and creating liturgies for the 11 AM service, and work with Rob to help our committees and ministries live into the spiritual priorities of our strategic plan adopted last year.  Please welcome Ann, her husband Kenneth Townsend, and children William and Abigail.

Music Director Dr. Nell Adams

Before her retirement in 2015, Dr. Adams taught for forty years in the music departments of two Baptist institutions, Clarke College and then Mississippi College. Music Director at Fondren Presbyterian since 2006, the Clinton resident has two daughters and two grown grandchildren.

Church Organist Jeff Hardy

Jeff is no stranger to Fondren having served as our interim organist since late August 2018.  A graduate of MC, he has extensive experience as both a teacher and church musician. 


Fondren Support Staff

Administrative Assistant: audie dodson

Audie Dodson served for many years as the Administrative Assistant at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Jackson. She is a member of Briarwood and a state leader in Presbyterian Women. Audie oversees the operation of the church office, publications, and assists committee leadership.

Accountant: Dee Stallings

Dee Stallings has over thirty years' experience in audit and tax. She is a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, and The Central Chapter of Certified Public Accountants. Dee is assisted by her daughter, Fran Peacock, a second generation CPA. They have been accounting for Fondren Presbyterian Church since August 1998.
