Fondren Presbyterian Church (PC-USA) welcomed the Reverend Doctor Robert William Lowry on January 30, 2017.
Pastor / Head of Staff: Dr. Robert William Lowry
Rob joined the Fondren staff in January 2017. Most recently he served as the Stated Clerk of the Presbytery of Arkansas. Since his ordination in 2001 he has served churches in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Michigan and taught as an adjunct faculty member at both Hendrix College and the University of the Ozarks.
An Arkansas native, Rob grew up in Little Rock and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and later a charter member of St. Margaret Episcopal Church. He holds degrees from Millsaps College (Go Majors!), Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University, and Columbia Theological Seminary. He completed his course work (but not his dissertation) for the PhD at King’s College in the University of Aberdeen (Scotland) in the area of Political/Practical theology.
Rob has served on multiple committees and boards both in the Presbyterian Church and in the larger community. He currently serves as part of the leadership of Mississippi’s statewide chapter of Everytown for Gun Sense in America/Moms Demand Action and the Presbyteries Cooperative Committee on Examinations which writes the standard ordination exams for all PC(USA) candidates for ministry.
In 2008 Rob joined with a group of clergy to form a group called “The Gathering of Heretics.” The group meets two or three times each year for mutual support, sharing ideas about ministry, and sermon writing and critique. One of the main pastimes of the group is home brewing. Rob’s primary responsibility is staying out of the way and being an occasional taste tester.
When he isn’t working, Rob can usually be found in his garden, at Lemuria, binge watching a new BBC show, or indulging his newest passion- baking random things from The Great British Baking Show.
Rob lives in Belhaven with his partner, Brian, and their two Springer Spaniels, Willie and Mo.
