Vacation Bible School (pre-K through fourth grade)
For one week every summer, Fondren's children, joined by their friends and neighbors, enjoy an energetic, stimulating week of Bible study, crafts, music, games, and treats. The VBS theme for 2007 was The Great Bible Reef, a take-off on the Great Barrier Reef, one of God's most amazing creations. The fellowship hall was transformed into an undersea world where children in pre-K through fourth grade gathered to begin the day with songs, science activities, and crafts. Bible stories involving water set the theme for how God's people care, listen, trust, believe, and help. Fondren's youth assisted teachers with music, crafts, and games. Vacation Bible School, a long-standing tradition at Fondren, continues to teach children the scriptural foundations of our faith and the ways we are to live them.
Fondren Bible Institute (adults, all ages)
The Fondren Bible Institute is Bible school for grown-ups! Fondren adults gather on four consecutive nights in the summer for a catered supper followed by intensive study of a particular topic related to scripture, brought to them by outstanding visiting scholars and ministers. Recent topics include "God's Love Written in Stone" featuring the Rev. Eugenia Gamble and a study of the hard parables with Rev. George Anderson. In the summer of 2007, a "music camp" for the children ran concurrently with the FBI, providing an enriching experience for the children while their parents were engaged in study.

Small Group Study: Spiritual Companions
What began as a study of Celtic Spirituality several years ago has evolved into a vigorous discussion group with emphasis on the transforming effects of spirituality. These transformations have led to personal revelations that have enhanced the members' relationships with each other and the world at large. Past studies have included reviews of the minor and major prophets, angels in the Bible and reflected in art, the reformation, the book of Jeremiah, and the Christian mystics. Central to our studies is the grace of God.

Libraries
The Rehfeldt Memorial Library is located at the north end of the first floor hall. Named for Dr. Frederick Edward Rehfeldt, who donated funds to establish a library at Fondren in the 1950s, the library now holds more than 2,000 books and other resources. Nelda M. Speaks, our own Lynda Speaks's mother, was the first librarian. The current librarian is Diane Blankenhorn. Contact Diane if you have a special request or if you are interested in making a gift to the library.
Fondren's Children's Library, located upstairs in Room 10, serves children up to age eleven (fifth grade) and contains several hundred religious and appropriate secular books. Helen Boone is the children's librarian.
Periodically, new acquisitions and book reviews are posted in News on the website. Literally-check the libraries out!
