Rims Barber was born in Chicago in 1936. Rims received his BA degree from Coe College in 1958 and his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1962. He came to Mississippi for Freedom Summer in 1964 with the National Council of Churches to support local black community efforts to end segregation and discrimination. He worked for the Delta Ministry from 1965 to 1977, participating in voter registration and school desegregation efforts. From 1977 to 1989, he worked for the Children's Defense Fund as its Mississippi office director. Since that time, Rims has been the director of the Mississippi Human Services Agenda, working with community groups to enable the voices of the poor and oppressed to be heard. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Tougaloo College in 1993.
Rims served the Presbyterian Church USA as Moderator for Alexander Memorial Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko (1990–2012) and as a member of the National Hunger Council (1991–1995) and the Mary Holmes College Board of Trustees (1986–2003). He has served Fondren Presbyterian Church as Parish Associate since 1999.
Rims and Judy have been married and working together for 37 years. They have four children and four grandchildren.
Su Campbell McLain received a BA in Religious Education and Bible and a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from Mississippi College. From 1982-1984 she served as Chaplain at University of Mississippi Medical Center. She received her Master of Divinity in 1987 from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Ordained in 1987, she served as Associate Pastor at Whitehaven Presbyterian Church from 1987-1992; as Interim Pastor at Mason Presbyterian Church, Mason, TN and Mt. Carmel Presbyterian church, Mt. Carmel, TN, from 1993-1995; and as Interim Preacher at First-Trinity Presbyterian Church, Laurel, MS, 1997-1998.
Her PhD in Counseling Psychology (1997) is from the University of Memphis. She worked as a psychologist at Mississippi State Hospital (1996-2007) and as a licensed psychologist in private practice from 2007 to the present.
Su has served as Parish Associate at Fondren since 2001.
Su's family includes son Mark McLain, his wife, Lisa, and their daughter, Marlee; daughter Melissa, her husband, Jerry Terry, and their children, Owen and Sara Kathryn; her sister, Martha Campbell Weatherall; and Beau Dog and Sam Cat, both rescue pets.
